Born October 10, 1966 in Hamburg, Germany, Walden moved to Los Angeles in 1996, where he built a reputation as a leading voice in contemporary jazz and cinematic arranging. He currently leads the Chris Walden Big Band and founded the Pacific Jazz Orchestra (PJO) in 2022, a hybrid big band with strings that performs in Los Angeles for a modern, expansive sound. With a track record as a lead arranger for the Academy Awards since 2019 and a long-running arranger for American Idol (2007–2016), Walden's influence extends across television, film, and concert stages.
