Christian Poltera is a distinguished violinist and chamber musician known for his refined artistry and collaborative spirit. Born in Zürich, he trained with legendary teachers including Nancy Chumachenco, Boris Pergamenschikow, and Heinrich Schiff, forming a strong foundation in both virtuosic technique and musical interpretation. Poltera co-founded Trio Zimmermann with Frank Peter Zimmermann and Antoine Tamestit, reinforcing his standing as a leading figure in contemporary and classical chamber music.

Beyond the quartet and string trio setting, Poltera maintains ongoing collaborations with top violinists and pianists, bringing a dynamic approach to festivals and concert halls around the world. His career has been recognized with prestigious honors and roles that reflect his commitment to artistic excellence and education.

Poltera was named a Borletti-Buitoni Award recipient in 2004 and chosen as a BBC New Generation Artist, highlighting his status as an emerging leader in the classical music world. He frequently performs with major orchestras and appears at international festivals. Since 2013, he has served as the Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Days at Bergkirche Büsing and teaches at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, shaping the next generation of performers. He plays the 1711 Mara Stradivari, a remarkable instrument that contributes to his warm, nuanced tone across a broad repertoire. His discography with BIS Records spans composers from Schoeck and Honegger to Barber, Dutilleux, Dvořák, Martinů, Walton, Hindemith, and Brahms.
