The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) is a historic and vibrant ensemble based in Birmingham, England. Founded in 1920 as the City of Birmingham Orchestra, the CBSO has grown into one of the UK’s leading symphony orchestras, renowned for its rich concert life, wide-reaching education and choral programs, and a global touring footprint. The Orchestra is resident at Symphony Hall, a premier venue in the city, and is led by Music Director Kazuki Yamada, whose contract has been extended through the 2028–2029 season. With a schedule that includes 150+ concerts each year across Birmingham, the West Midlands, the UK and internationally, CBSO combines stellar performances with a strong commitment to community engagement and contemporary classical work.
