The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) brings together around 130–160 young musicians aged 12–24 from Ireland and Northern Ireland. Founded in 1995 by Sharon Treacy-Dunne as a cross-border peace initiative, the ensemble operates from the Dundalk Institute of Technology and blends traditional Irish and Ulster Scots instruments with full symphonic orchestration. Under the baton of conductor Greg Beardsell, CBOI has earned acclaim for its ambitious concerts and international appearances, including Carnegie Hall in New York and a White House performance for President Obama. The group also presents the annual Peace Proms, a nationwide arena-tour that invites tens of thousands of schoolchildren to perform alongside the orchestra.
