Meet Cynthia Cioffari, a distinguished American bassoonist with a career spanning orchestral leadership, chamber music, and higher education. Since 1993, she has served as the principal bassoonist/ contrabassoonist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, bringing a deep musical voice to a wide repertoire and community concerts across Ohio. As a key member of the Solaris Wind Quintet, Cynthia collaborates with renowned wind virtuosi to present engaging chamber music programs that highlight the versatility of wind instruments. She shares her expertise as a faculty member at the University of Akron, where she mentors the next generation of woodwind players and contributes to the department’s performance and outreach initiatives.

Beyond the concert hall, Cynthia has recorded with Solaris on Capstone Records (American Quintets, 2000; American Quintets II, 2003) and Crystal Records (Alec Wilder Woodwind Quintets, 2014), showcasing her lyrical tone and technical precision. Her teaching and performing resume also includes Roanoke Symphony, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival Orchestra, reflecting a broad regional impact and commitment to musical education.
