Dael Orlandersmith's Forever is a remarkable, semi-autobiographical solo memoir performance that unfolds through one onstage presence, weaving memory, travel, and character into a lyrical, ritualistic stage experience. Debuting at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in 2014, Forever has since graced stages from New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre to New York’s NYTW, with later engagements at Portland Center Stage and the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. The piece draws from Orlandersmith’s family history and travels, including a poignant pilgrimage to Père Lachaise Cemetery, creating a deeply personal yet universal narrative about identity, memory, and storytelling.
