Dag Nasty is a cornerstone of Washington, D.C.’s punk scene, blending hardcore intensity with melodic hooks and emo-inflected guitar work. Formed in 1985 by Brian Baker (ex-Minor Threat), Colin Sears, Roger Marbury, and Shawn Brown, the band’s evolving lineup later included Dave Smalley and Peter Cortner across different eras. Their sound helped shape what many fans now call melodic hardcore and post-hardcore, with a focus on tuneful, guitar-driven arrangements that set them apart from early hardcore styles.
