Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia (1990), Ashbee relocated to Gabriola Island in 2020, continuing to develop work that travels across major international stages and festivals. Her pieces have been showcased at Venice Biennale, Oktoberdans, Munich Dance Biennale, Montpellier Danse, and other leading venues, with retrospectives in 2021 that celebrated her distinctive approach to choreography and live performance.
