Biography
Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, Dallas Black Dance Theatre has grown into a national beacon for performance versatility and education. As the oldest continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas, DBDT has cultivated a diverse repertory that spans modern dance, ballet, jazz, African, and spiritual works. The company has premiered and commissioned works by renowned choreographers, reflecting a commitment to innovation and artistic risk-taking. In 2008, DBDT was recognized as an American Masterpiece Touring Artist by the National Endowment for the Arts, a testament to its touring excellence and artistic impact. In 2017, the organization received the Texas Medal of the Arts Award for Arts Education, underscoring its dedication to community engagement and education through dance.
