Damian Woetzel stands as a towering figure in the world of dance and arts leadership. A former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, Woetzel joined the company in 1985 and rose to principal in 1989, earning acclaim for his interpretations of Balanchine and Robbins repertoire, as well as works by Christopher Wheeldon and contemporary choreographers. Since July 2018, he has served as President of The Juilliard School, guiding one of the world’s premier performing arts conservatories. Woetzel also leads as Artistic Director of the Vail Dance Festival, a role he has held since 2006/2007, curating a program that blends ballet, modern, tap, and cross-genre works across iconic venues in Colorado.
