Dance Alive's The Nutcracker is more than a holiday performance—it's a century-spanning tradition carried by a resilient, touring ballet company. Founded in 1966 as Gainesville Civic Ballet and later known as Dance Alive National Ballet (DANB), this troupe has built a robust history of national and international touring, educational outreach, and collaborations with local orchestras. Under the artistic leadership of Kim Tuttle since 1986, the company has produced hundreds of ballets and programs, including Lady Bug, and continues to engage communities through classrooms, workshops, and performances.
