DanceAfrica is America’s largest festival celebrating African diasporic dance and culture. Since its inception in 1977 by Chuck Davis, the festival has grown into a multi-day celebration rooted in community, education, and performance. Since 2015, Abdel R. Salaam has led the artistic direction, continuing the mission to showcase dynamic dance, music, art, and education across the African diaspora. The 2025 edition centers Mozambique’s artistic heritage, bringing the Song & Dance Company of Mozambique along with a vibrant lineup featuring Mama Coumba Saaraba, The DanceAfrica Spirit Walkers, and The Billie’s Youth Arts Academy Dance Ensemble. Performances, film programs, outdoor dance showcases, and a bustling bazaar create a holistic cultural experience for New York City and visitors alike.
