Founded in April 1974, Dancemakers began as a cooperative of 10 dancers in Toronto, quickly becoming one of Canada’s oldest contemporary dance organizations. Though the original company announced its closure in 2020 with a final season and space surrender in 2021, the Dancemakers brand continues to live on through new projects and collaborations. Today, you’ll find ongoing activity under the Dancemakers umbrella, including ventures like Future Dances at the FADO Performance Art Centre, reflecting a resilient commitment to contemporary dance in Toronto and beyond. This page highlights the history, key works, and ongoing initiatives, along with upcoming performances where you can secure your seats and support Canadian dance.
