Danilo Pérez is a renowned pianist, composer, and cultural ambassador born in Panama on December 29, 1965. As the youngest member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra in 1989, Pérez has long balanced virtuosic performance with educational leadership. He founded the Panama Jazz Festival in 2003 to celebrate jazz education and cross-cultural collaboration, and in 2009 he established the Berklee Global Jazz Institute to mentor the next generation of improvisers. A UNESCO Artist for Peace and former UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Pérez has been recognized with the Smithsonian Legacy Award (2009) and has contributed to the international jazz canon through collaborations, commissions, and acclaimed recordings.
