David Lockington (born October 11, 1956, in Dartford, Kent, United Kingdom) is a distinguished British-American conductor and cellist whose career has spanned decades of leadership, artistry, and collaboration. He served as music director of the Grand Rapids Symphony from January 1999 to May 2015 and remains its music director laureate, guiding the ensemble with a thoughtful, accessible approach that resonates with audiences in Michigan and beyond. In addition to his work in Grand Rapids, Lockington has held pivotal roles with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra (Music Director since May 2007) and the Pasadena Symphony (Music Director, 2013–2021).
