The Dawg Day Afternoon Bluegrass Festival is a celebrated event rooted in the Dawg music lineage associated with guitarist and composer David Grisman. While the festival name captures a moment in bluegrass history, the Dawg aesthetic extends beyond traditional bluegrass, weaving jazz, gypsy, and Latin influences into vibrant performances. The 2015 edition at Green Music Center (Weill Hall + Lawn) on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park, CA, featured headline performances by the David Grisman Sextet (Dawg), the Del McCoury Band, and Jerry Douglas presenting Earls of Leicester. Though there isn’t publicly documented information about a 2025 edition, the Dawg brand continues to influence contemporary roots music and related acts.
