The Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (DPYO) is one of the oldest youth orchestras in the United States, rooted in a tradition that began in 1937 under the direction of Paul Katz. Today, DPYO is part of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA), alongside the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Strings and Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings. This collaborative network supports young musicians as they develop foundational orchestral technique, ensemble leadership, and a love for a wide range of repertoire—from classical cornerstone works to contemporary premieres.
