The Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) is a foundational youth ensemble based in Decatur, Illinois. Operated in partnership with Millikin University and the Millikin/Decatur Symphony Orchestra, DYSO nurtures young musicians through a rigorous classical repertoire and a collaborative performing experience. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 5:15–6:45 PM at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center, Millikin University, providing a consistent rhythm for skill-building and ensemble cohesiveness. Tuition is the best available price per semester, with scholarships available to eligible students. Led by Co-Directors Neal Smith and Brianna Webb, with a skilled staff including Grace Portz (String Coach) and Aaron Villarreal (Percussion Coach), the orchestra emphasizes well-known symphonic works and orchestral literature suitable for developing musicians. The DYSO performs in venues around Decatur and participates in Millikin’s Kirkland season calendar and ticketing system for 2025–26 events.
