Dennis James, born in Philadelphia in 1950, is a premier performer known for his historically authentic scores for silent films and for reviving niche instruments like the theatre organ, glass armonica, and theremin. He began performing silent-film accompaniments in 1969 and has since collaborated with major symphonies, including making his Chicago Symphony debut in 1984. A respected figure on the professional circuit, James is frequently invited to silent-film events hosted by universities, regional theatres, and organizations such as ATOS and SilentFilm.org.
