Hailing from Chicago, Derrick Gardner is a renowned jazz trumpeter, lifelong performer, and devoted educator who has shaped modern jazz through dynamic performances and thoughtful leadership. Since 1991, he has led The Jazz Prophets and, since 2020, the Big dig! Band. In 2024, he was appointed Director of Jazz Studies at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, reinforcing his impact on the next generation of jazz artists.
