For background, Digable Planets formed in the late 1980s and quickly stood out with intricate wordplay and live-instrumentation influenced by jazz legends. Their debut Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) arrived in 1993 and was soon Gold-certified, while second album Blowout Comb (1994) leaned more political and jazz-forward. The group earned a Grammy in 1994 for Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat). In 2017, a live album captured their 2016 tour with a band, and in 2025 they announced Blowout Comb 30th Anniversary North American dates.
