About Discus
Discus emerged in 1996 from Jakarta’s vibrant music scene, driven by Iwan Hasan and a group of fellow prog-rock musicians who shared a desire to push boundaries. The band’s debut album, released in 1999, marked a bold entrance into the international prog-rock community: Italy’s Mellow Records distributed the album, while Chico & Ira Productions handled the Indonesian release. The early 2000s brought a broader footprint with Tot Licht!, issued around 2003–2004 through Musea Records in France, Gohan Records in Japan, and Sony PRS in Indonesia, earning critical acclaim across continents.
Discus’ work has been recognized with prestigious awards. At the AMI Awards of 2004, Anne won Best Progressive Rock Piece and Tot Licht! earned Best Progressive Rock Production, cementing Discus as a cornerstone of Asian progressive rock. A deluxe box set released in 2024 by Disk Union Japan collects remastered versions of the first album and Tot Licht!, plus a live recording from Switzerland (ProgSol 2005 bootleg) for fans and new listeners to experience the band’s live energy.
Live recordings have a special place in Discus lore. The Official Bootleg Live in Switzerland—recorded on 7 October 2005 in Pratteln—has seen reissues in 2024/2025 by Arcangelo in Japan, highlighting the band’s enduring appeal. Tot Licht! remains a standout in Japan and among prog-rock circles worldwide, often cited as a highlight in the genre’s global catalog.
Looking ahead, Discus continues to engage fans with potent performances. The 2025 Schedule includes a prominent appearance at Synchronize Festival 2025 in Jakarta, set for October 3, 2025, at Gambir Expo on the XYZ Stage. This event represents Discus’ ongoing commitment to live performance and international collaboration, bringing their signature complexity and melodic finesse to a new generation of listeners.
