Dogtooth Violet is a longstanding staple of Houston's country-rock and folk-rock scene. Emerging in the early 1970s, this ensemble carved out a distinct sound that combined storytelling folk with the energy of country-rock. Their journey traversed the shelves of Dogtooth Records, culminating in a debut album released in 1976. The band's later activity found new life with a 2019 Deluxe Edition that reissued the 1976 material plus 2019-era tracks, including the notable Carolina Wind. The preservation of their history is safeguarded by Rice University’s Houston Folk Music Archive, which houses a dedicated Dogtooth Violet collection documenting the band’s trajectory. While their last publicly documented live appearance was a Warehouse Live show in September 2019, there are currently no publicly listed 2025 tour dates.
