Douglas Boyd, born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1959, began his musical life as an oboist before pivoting to conducting. A foundational figure in European classical music, Boyd served as founding member and long-time principal oboist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe from 1981 to 2002. His leadership roles include Music Director of the Manchester Camerata (2001–2011) and Artistic Director of Garsington Opera since 2012. He has also steered ensembles across Europe, holding positions such as Principal Conductor of Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur (2009–2016) and Music Director of Orchestre de chambre de Paris (2015–2020). Boyd’s discography features notable Beethoven symphonies with Avie/MAN Camerata and Haydn Paris Symphonies with Orchestre de chambre de Paris (NoMadMusic, 2020). His 2025 activities include a Cyprus Beethoven program conducted with Viktoria Mullová in Limassol and Nicosia.
