Dr. Andy P. Smith is a renowned percussionist and educator based in El Paso, Texas. As the Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), he guides aspiring musicians with a blend of academic rigor and live performance energy. Holding a Doctorate in Percussion from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Andy combines deep technical mastery with a collaborative, in-the-trenches approach to making music.

Beyond the classroom, he performs and records with Batuquê Trio, contributing to a distinctive sound that blends jazz, traditional rhythms, and contemporary percussion. The trio released its debut album, Transparency, in 2015, marking a milestone in his recording career.
