The essentials
The ETSU Buccaneers basketball program represents East Tennessee State University in NCAA Division I competition. The team has a storied history, with ten NCAA Tournament appearances and a memorable Sweet Sixteen run in 1968. The program enjoyed a notable era in the late 1980s and early 1990s, capturing four consecutive Southern Conference (SoCon) titles from 1989–1992 under the leadership of coaches Les Robinson and Alan LeForce.
Home games are played at Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, a venue known for its close-knit atmosphere and strong local support. As of the 2025-26 season, head coach Brooks Savage enters his third season guiding the Buccaneers, building on a tradition of competitive basketball and community involvement.
Upcoming 2025-26 matches include an exhibition against Wake Forest and a slate of SoCon games hosted at Freedom Hall. The SoCon tournament takes place in Asheville at the Harrah's Cherokee Center from March 6–9, 2026.
