Team and competition background

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels athletic program began soon after 1906, when the school operated as Eastern Kentucky State Normal School. In 1963, the name changed to Colonels, reflecting the established mascot. Roy Kidd took over as head coach in 1964 and led the team to its first Ohio Valley Conference title by 1967. Roy Kidd Stadium opened in 1969 as Hanger Field and was renamed in 1990 to honor legendary coach Roy Kidd. [1] [2]

What attending is like

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels have a rivalry with Western Kentucky and Morehead State. Roy Kidd Stadium has a capacity of 20,000 seats and was originally built as an 'academic-athletic showplace' combining classroom space with a stadium. Major expansions in 2017 added over 3,000 seats and modern amenities to Roy Kidd Stadium. [3] [2]
