Since 2004 she has shaped Cantabile’s artistic direction and, in 2018, took on the role of Managing Director. Her work extends beyond Cantabile to the broader choral community as Music Director of the Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale, where she has conducted 50+ choral‑orchestral works with major ensembles. Sharkova is widely recognized for advocating Russian choral music on international stages, including performances at Carnegie Hall. Her accolades include Gold medals at the European Choir Games and the Golden State International Choral Trophy (2016).

In 2023/2024, Sharkova led Cantabile on a high‑profile international tour to Australia and New Zealand, marking a milestone as Cantabile celebrated Elena Sharkova’s 30th anniversary with the organization in 2025. The Cantabile 2025 season features Circlesong (Bob Chilcott) on Nov 9, 2025 at St. Francis Episcopal Church in San Jose, with holiday concerts in San Jose on Nov 22 and Dec 6–7, 2025.
