Elio Villafranca, a Cuban-born pianist and prolific composer, creates a distinctive Afro-Caribbean jazz voice that blends Cuban roots, Congolese rhythms, classical training, and contemporary improvisation. A Guggenheim Fellow (2021) and two-time Grammy nominee, Villafranca has been celebrated as a Rising Star by DownBeat (2018, 2019) and awarded the Jazz at Lincoln Center Millennium Swing Award (2014). His music, often described as having a Caribbean Tinge, travels from intimate clubs to major concert halls, drawing on a rich heritage and a modern approach to jazz language.
