Elkin Big Band is a storied North Carolina institution in the world of big band jazz. With roots tracing back to 1961 and an official formation as The Elkin Big Band in 1982, the ensemble has evolved through local leadership to become a versatile 18–20 piece group under the direction of Larry Irwin and, more recently, Michael Beres. The band delivers danceable big-band jazz, performing a wide repertoire from Irving Berlin classics to contemporary arrangements such as Jack Stamp pieces. Based in the foothills of North Carolina, they regularly headline at regional venues and collaborate with local talents to offer powerful, family-friendly music experiences.
