Elroy Friesen is a prominent figure in Canadian choral music, serving as Director of Choral Studies at the University of Manitoba and Professor in the Desautels Faculty of Music. He specializes in Choral Studies, Music Education, and Conducting, and leads a range of ensembles that bring Baroque and contemporary repertoire to life. As Artistic Director of Canzona, Winnipeg’s professional Baroque choir, Friesen emphasizes Baroque masterworks alongside Nordic and Canadian repertoire. He is also the founder and former Artistic Director of Prairie Voices, a Winnipeg-based youth choir, and co-founder of fikamusik, a Choral Conducting Intensive. His work is recognized for its artistic excellence, educational impact, and expansive performance schedules across Canada and beyond.

Friesen's ensembles have a strong track record of national and international tours, with many performances recorded or broadcast by CBC. While his primary focus is conducting and collaborative performance, his contributions to choral education and leadership have earned awards such as the 2013 University of Manitoba Rh Award for Creative Works and multiple Manitoba Arts Council grants.
