With a fearless voice in contemporary dance and a mastery of street and club vernacular, Ephrat Asherie leads Ephrat Asherie Dance (EAD) as Artistic Director. Based in New York City, Ephrat is a celebrated dancer, choreographer, and b-girl whose work blends breaking, hip hop, house, and vogue with concert dance to create vibrant, accessible performances. A 2016 Bessie Award recipient, Ephrat has also earned honors such as the Harkness Promise Award and the NYFA Fellowship for her contributions to dance and culture.

EAD specializes in Afro-diasporic dance forms, honoring community and history while pushing the boundaries of contemporary movement. The company collaborates with live music and multimedia to create immersive experiences that travel from intimate studios to major venues and festivals.

Upcoming shows and projects include the world premiere of Shadow Cities with Grammy-winning pianist/composer Arturo O’Farrill, a dynamic program that combines seven dancers with four musicians for live, energetic performances. Shadow Cities premiered in 2025 at Penn Live Arts and has been touring nationally. Ephrat and her company continue to bring bold, precise technique and a distinctive voice to stages across the country.

Past works such as UNDERSCORED (2022–2025 touring) have showcased the company’s range and endurance on the road, with performances at prestigious venues like the Guggenheim Works & Process, Jacob’s Pillow, and the Joyce Theater. In addition to touring, Shadow Cities received noteworthy attention at the APAP showcase in New York City Center Studio 5 on January 12, 2025, illustrating Ephrat’s role in shaping the dialogue between live music and dance.
