Fabien Gabel is a dynamic French conductor whose career blends principled leadership with expressive interpretive clarity. Born in Paris in 1975, he first made a mark on the international stage after winning the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in 2004. He served as Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec from 2012 to 2021, where he helped shape a vibrant musical identity and broadened the orchestra’s repertoire. In 2025/26, Gabel leads the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich as Chief Conductor, and his Metropolitan Opera debut as the title role in Carmen is scheduled for the 2025–26 season. He remains an active recording artist, with notable releases including the 2022 BIS album French Trumpet Concertos with Håkan Hardenberger.
