Fantcha, born Francelina Durão Almeida, is a celebrated Cape Verdean singer whose roots trace back to Mindelo. Emerging from Flores do Mindelo and becoming a protégé of the legendary Cesária Évora, Fantcha has carried the torch of the morna and coladeira traditions with African, Cuban, and Portuguese influences. Her career has taken her from the stages of Cape Verde to major venues worldwide, including the Hollywood Bowl, the Chicago World Music Festival, and Joe’s Pub in New York. She later moved to New York, where she continued to share her distinctive sound with audiences around the globe.
