Felipe Lara is a leading voice in contemporary classical music, renowned for blending rigorous orchestration with expressive immediacy. A Pulitzer Prize for Music finalist in 2024 for the Double Concerto for esperanza spalding, Claire Chase, and large orchestra solidified Lara’s reputation as a composer-performer who moves audiences and fellow musicians alike. Based in Baltimore, Lara serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Composition at the Peabody Institute, Johns Hopkins University, where he also helped curate innovative programs like the Polyaspora Festival, which highlighted Black and Brazilian perspectives in contemporary music.
