World Lacrosse (WL) is the international federation that governs field lacrosse, box lacrosse, and the newer Sixes discipline. Formed in 2008 through the fusion of the ILF (men’s) and IFWLA (women’s) bodies, WL unified the sport’s global governing structure and rebranded from FIL to World Lacrosse in 2019. The organization maintains strategic leadership from its Colorado Springs headquarters and oversees world championships, regional qualifiers, and ongoing development programs to grow lacrosse worldwide.
In the Olympic arena, WL has pursued inclusion for the sport on the Olympic program, with the Los Angeles 2028 Games featuring as a central element of their Olympic vision. This path reflects WL’s commitment to elevating lacrosse on the world stage, increasing opportunities for athletes, fans, and host cities alike.
