Born Avery Jones and rooted in Brooklyn, Kota the Friend crafts music that blends personal storytelling with soulful production. He launched as an independent artist, later creating FLTBYS to support a community-driven approach to hip hop. His 2019 album FOTO received strong critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone ranking it among the Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2019. The 2020 release EVERYTHING marked Kota’s first appearance on the Billboard 200, peaking at #162 and expanding his reach beyond the underground scene.
