Friends of the Gamelan Tickets

Friends of the Gamelan (FROG) is a cornerstone of Indonesian gamelan in Chicago. Founded in 1980, the ensemble has grown to include two wings—Javanese and Balinese—following a 2023 merger with the Chicago Balinese Gamelan. They combine traditional repertoire with inclusive instruction and community outreach, bringing intricate rhythms and shimmering metallophones to venues, schools, and festivals across the region.

In 2024, FROG released a live document of their craft, Live at Constellation 2024, released on Bandcamp in early 2025 with guest artists and a full live program. Their artistry has been recognized with the Indonesian Cultural Award (Anugerah Kebudayaan Indonesia) in 2025, in the Foreign Institution category for Gamelan Arts.
