Fruko y Sus Tesos emerged from Medellín in 1970, founded by Julio Ernesto Estrada—known as Fruko. As a foundational pillar of Colombian salsa, they helped shape the nation’s tropical sound and introduced salsa brava to Colombia and international audiences. The group earned global recognition, becoming the first Colombian salsa ensemble to perform at Madison Square Garden, a milestone that underscored their influence across continents. Over decades, Fruko y Sus Tesos built an extensive discography with 42 albums documented through 2015 via Discos Fuentes, spanning from Tesura (1970) to Fruko sinfónico (2013). In 2025, the project continues with new releases, including the single El Preso and related tracks.
