Gabriela Kahane’s career blends composition, songwriting, and performance into a distinctive voice within contemporary American music. Her most recent studio album Magnificent Bird (2022, Nonesuch) followed by the single Red Letter Days (2024, Nonesuch) showcase a continued evolution in orchestral and intimate arrangements. Earlier works include Book of Travelers (2018, Nonesuch), The Ambassador (2014, Sony Masterworks), Where Are the Arms (2011, StorySound), and her self-titled debut Gabriel Kahane (2008, Family Records/Wasted Storefront).
Her 2021 Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters recognizes the depth and originality of her creative output. Notably, The Ambassador was staged at BAM (2014–2015), and Magnificent Bird and Book of Travelers have been presented as stage works (2022–2024), marking her as a pivotal voice in contemporary performance. As Creative Chair of the Oregon Symphony since 2019, she brings orchestral perspective to a broader audience.
