Dave Davidson is best known for his work with Revocation, bringing technical precision and a penchant for complex guitar work. Luke Roberts, known for his role with Ayahuasca, adds expressive vocal textures and a willingness to experiment across textures. The duo crafted Gargoyl as a project that sits at the intersection of progressive rock and grunge, or what some listeners describe as progressive grunge rock. Their approach blends prog-inspired complexity with the raw, melodic sensibilities of alternative rock, creating songs that are both intellectually engaging and emotionally direct.

The band released a two-song demo, Asomatous, in March 2019, which laid the groundwork for their fuller explorations. In 2020, Gargoyl released their debut LP Gargoyl on Season of Mist, a label signing announced in January 2020, highlighting the band’s growing momentum. The LP features 11 tracks that traverse intricate guitar work, dynamic shifts, and a willingness to push boundaries within the heavy music umbrella. Their early singles—Electrical Sickness, Wraith, and Plastic Nothing—helped establish their sonic identity as listeners awaited the full-length album.
