Gary Geis (1943–2016) was a celebrated dancer, choreographer, and instructor rooted in Springfield, Ohio. Trained in New York City with June Taylor and the Harkness Ballet, and mentored by pathfinders of modern dance such as Martha Graham and Merce Cunningham, Geis built a lasting legacy in regional dance education and performance. He co-directed the Ballet Theatre of the Virgin Islands in the early 1970s before establishing the Gary Geis School of Dance and the Gary Geis Dance Company (GGDC) in Ohio. Today, GGDC continues to showcase a pre-professional standard through collaborations with local symphonies, colleges, and arts organizations, keeping Geis’s vision alive on stage.
