Gary Valentine, born Gary Lachman, is a foundational figure in the punk and new wave scenes. As the original bassist for Blondie, he joined the band in 1975 and helped shape early material, including writing X Offender. His songwriting contributions helped Blondie achieve notable UK success with Presence, Dear, reaching the UK Top 10 in 1978. Beyond Blondie, Valentine formed The Know in 1980 and later Fire Escape, releasing the 2003 compilation Tomorrow Belongs to You. In 2006, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of Blondie. Since the 1990s, he has pursued writing on mysticism and consciousness, building a parallel career as a lecturer and author.
