Goatsnake emerged in 1996 in Los Angeles after The Obsessed disbanded, becoming a cornerstone of the LA doom/stoner metal scene. Core members Greg Anderson and Pete Stahl (later joined by Greg Rogers and Scott Renner) crafted a heavy, hypnotic sound that blends sludge, desert rock, and old-school metal. Goatsnake’s discography showcases two influential early releases on Man's Ruin: Goatsnake Vol. 1 (1999) and Flower of Disease (2000), which helped define the Los Angeles doom/stoner metal sound. The band reformed in 2004, releasing Trampled Under Hoof (EP) that year, and later returned with Black Age Blues in 2015, produced by Nick Raskulinecz and issued on Southern Lord / Differ-Ant. A notable reunion at Roadburn Festival in 2010 and European appearances, including a 2011 London show with Godflesh, cemented their status as a persistent live force.
