Grandma Gatewood Took A Walk is a compelling live theatre experience that brings to life Emma Gatewood, the first woman to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail solo in 1955. Written by playwright Catherine Bush, currently Barter Theatre's playwright-in-residence, this two-hander features on-stage live music by Ben Mackel, weaving history, grit, and resilience into an intimate performance. Led by Mary Lucy Bivins and John Hardy, the production blends storytelling with a vivid soundscape, offering audiences a tour-ready show that travels from intimate theatres to larger stages.
