Greg Brown is a cornerstone figure in American folk music, known for a warm baritone voice, thoughtful songwriting, and a career that spans decades. Born July 2, 1949, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Brown became the first artist signed to Red House Records after its founding by Bob Feldman. He has earned two Grammy nominations, including Best Traditional Folk Album for Slant 6 Mind at the 41st Grammy Awards. Brown’s music has charted on Billboard, with Milk of the Moon reaching #48 on the Top Independent Albums chart. In addition to his studio work, he released Hymns to What Is Left in 2012 on Sawdust Records, and Ring Around The Moon: A Songbook was published in 2024 by Ramshackle Press, featuring lyrics and photography that celebrate his catalog. Although Brown retired from regular touring, he left a lasting legacy with farewell shows in 2023 at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City.
