Grupo Costa Azul, formed in 1971 in Houston, Texas by Rigo Tovar and his Costa Azul, reshaped the tropical mexicano sound with a unique fusion of cumbia, bolero, and rock. Known for danceable melodies, prominent synthesizers, and melodic hooks, they became a cornerstone of the Costa Azul movement. The ensemble earned multiple gold records in Mexico during the 1970s, with notable titles like Lamento de Amor and Cuando Tu Cariño. Their live shows drew massive crowds in Monterrey and beyond, cementing a lasting legacy that continues to inspire new generations of fans and performers.
