Gulch emerged in 2016 from Santa Cruz, California, stamping their name on the modern hardcore scene with blistering tempo, technical riffing, and a genre-spanning approach. Over a short but influential run, the band became a touchstone for the 2020s American hardcore renaissance, earning recognition from major outlets and a dedicated following for their relentless live performances.

Formed in Santa Cruz, Gulch pushed boundaries across hardcore punk, powerviolence, grindcore, and metalcore. Their work helped redefine intensity for a new generation of listeners, with critics highlighting their impact on the scene and the ferocity of their recorded output.

Gulch released one studio album, Impenetrable Cerebral Fortress (2020) via Closed Casket Activities, and notable EPs including Burning Desire to Draw Last Breath (2018) and Gulch / Sunami (2021, split). In 2022, they released Monkey Gone To Heaven, a Pixies cover, as a bold statement of influence and range. The band played a final show on July 31, 2022 at Sound and Fury in Los Angeles, effectively disbanding, though a one-off reunion reportedly occurred on December 30, 2023 at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, CA. Fans and venues alike continue to celebrate Gulch’s legacy and influence across the heavy music landscape.
