People behind the production
Hair & Other Stories is a collaborative, participatory two-hour dance-theater experience from Urban Bush Women (UBW). Co-created with choreographers Chanon Judson and Mame Diarra Speis, the work draws inspiration from HairStories (2001) by Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and blends movement, spoken word, projections, and audience interaction. Original music has featured contributions from The Illustrious Blacks in select productions, enriching the piece with a distinctive sonic tapestry. UBW positions this production as an inclusive, community-powered performance that invites viewers to engage, reflect, and step into the storytelling process.
