The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) brings world-class classical music to Hamilton, Ontario, with dynamic mainstage concerts and community programs that engage audiences of all ages. Under the baton of James S. Kahane for the 2024–25 season, the ensemble continues a rich tradition of musical excellence started in Hamilton's vibrant cultural scene. HPO performs primarily at the FirstOntario Concert Hall (also historically listed as FirstOntario Centre in older materials), a central venue in Hamilton that hosts orchestral performances, cultural events, and community initiatives.

Beyond concerts, HPO runs educational initiatives including the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (HPYO), helping young musicians develop their craft through performance opportunities and mentorship. Season highlights for 2025 include Beethoven’s Seventh on January 18, 2025; HPO Performs the Music of James Bond on February 8, 2025; Pictures at an Exhibition on March 22, 2025; Nosky Performs Handel, Haydn & Bach on April 12, 2025; and James Ehnes Plays Tchaikovsky on May 3, 2025. The orchestra is expanding into off-mainstage events and Intimate & Immersive series, with collaborations across local venues to bring more programming to the community. The HPO’s discography features The Hockey Sweater (2018), a collaborative work composed by Abigail Richardson-Schulte and released through the Canadian Music Centre. The ensemble has earned the Beckwith Award (inaugural, 2020) from the Canadian Music Centre and the Vida Peene Award (Ontario Arts Council, 2024).
